HAPPY?

'HAPPY?' is an absolute firecracker of a song, and that was obvious from the moment Micky sent us his demo. We couldn't wait to get started after our first listen.

When Tommy and Micky came into the studio to record, that energy which was so present in the demo increased exponentially.

That wonderfully creative and high energy environment produced changes in the song which are now completely integral elements (such as the high guitar in the chorus).

We got Tommy to record an insane number of vocals for this because we could hear that 'HAPPY?' wanted to be massive. The chorus and whole second half had to feel like a stadium-shaking anthem, so we recorded Tommy singing his chorus line over and over again until we had some seriously thick vocal layers to emulate a huge crowd. Something else we did to achieve this feel was to introduce the gang vocals in the bridge (the "whoaaa"'s) and we think they turned out brilliantly.

After the recording was done and Micky and Tommy had done their bit, we set to work pulling everything together and trying to produce that positive-yet-depricatory vibe we had felt from the songwriting and performances to come thundering through the speakers. Not long after, a first mix appeared, and that is the one that got sent to mastering, and then straight to your headphones. Sometimes the direction is just so clear that you can just go in and nail it on the first try, and that's what happened here.

Needless to say, we love 'HAPPY?' and are still singing along to those anthemic chorus melodies today.
